Livestock Sales Reports - Dalmally

United Auctions held their annual show & sale of suckled calves at Dalmally Auction Mart.

1180 Calves sold.  693 Bullock calves sold to £1170 for a 554kg Limousin Cross from P M Kennedy, Tom A Bhioran to average £750.17 (+£55.67).  487 Heifer calves sold to £1140 for a 546kg Aberdeen Angus Cross, also from Mr Kennedy to average £649.51 (£+4.16).

Bullocks sold to 416.7p per kilo for Charolais Crosses from Otter Estate to average 282.07p per kilo (+ 24.77).
Heifers sold to 325p per kilo for Simmental Crosses from Machrins, Colonsay to average 261.24p per kilo (+ 16.34).

Shane Brown, South Barr Farms, Inchinnan judged the various classes and his awards are as follows:
Bullock Class. 1st & 2nd Tombuie, 3rd Dall.
Heifer Class. 1st & 2nd Tombuie.  
Champion – Tombuie, Bullock.  
Reserve – Tombuie, Heifer.  
A good show of quality bred calves was on offer to a strong force of buyers. Cattle in general were around 20/25 kilo’s lighter on the year.

United Auctions (Saturday 2 October 2021) sold 1633 sheep of all classes.

Lambs averaged £67.00 (+£16.99).  In keeping with current trends, all classes of lambs were in exceptional demand and many more could have been sold to meet the needs of a large turnout of buyers.

United Auctions (Friday 24 September 2021) sold 7506 ewe lambs, gimmers and warranted ewes at the annual sale of Blackface breeding sheep.

1359 ewe lambs averaged £75.32 (+£18.88) selling to £225 from W G Walker, Crammie. 1778 gimmers averaged £114.55 (-£4.42), selling to £1100 from J Jackson & Son, Pole Farm selling to T. Nelson, Glengorm. 4369 ewes averaged £82.44 (+£8.74) and sold to £400 from D Murray, Lurgan. 

For the second year running, only blackface breeding sheep was catalogued at this sale. Dalmally Market is now recognised as one of the principal centres for obtaining quality bred blackface breeding sheep, attracting consignors and buyers from near and far.  The market was buzzing from start to finish with the last consignors of the day fully obtaining the values which prevailed throughout the day.

This was the Principal Show and Sale of BF wedder lambs, sponsored by The Blackface Breeders Association, when 7052 BF lambs averaged £55.46 (+£2.40).
